The Adirondack Warriors, a Special Olympics basketball team had it’s “ten minutes in the sun” on Saturday, February 9th. The team representing Area 26, Clinton/Essex counties, played an exhibition game before a packed house at SUNY Plattsburgh’s Memorial Hall. In those short, but sweet minutes between the Cardinal women’s and men’s games the Warriors showed off their skills against the Cardinal athletes. Much to the amazement of the crowd and themselves the team scored 14 points to the opponents 8 to win the scrimmage!

It was a particularly special night for Coach Anne Slatterly who is Hall of Fame alum of Plattsburgh State. Team members Lonnie Bobbie, Adarylle Chambers, Steve Genther, Ron Cahoon, Steve Williams, John Piestrzynski, Brian LaMountain, Travis Burgess, Ian Bell, Don Caza, Matt Thomson, Mike Wells and Joe Therrien looked right at home in spite of the huge gym and the big crowd.

It’s a winning season for the Cardinal men (undefeated at this writing) and it was certainly a winning night for Special Olympics athletes, coaches and families!
